Battlefield 3 , Incoming !

It's back to the war zone according to Bluesnews .

http://www.bluesnews.com/s/112702/battlefield-3-announced

An invitation to beta test Battlefield 3 will be included in a Medal of Honor Limited Edition that will also include additional perks, announces Electronic Arts, the first overt confirmation of development of the next installment in DICE's military shooter series other than an offhand reference to investors by EA's John Pleasants and another comment by Fredrik Liliegren, co-founder and former CEO of DICE. EA Games and the Medal of Honor Website have a bit more on the BF3 beta offer, which for some reason is contingent on the launch of testing within twelve months of the release of Medal of Honor, currently scheduled for Oct. 12, 2010 in North America and Oct. 15 in Europe. Here is the stipulation: "Beta offer is contingent on Beta availability within 12 months of Medal of Honor release. Beta will be available for a limited time only and offer expires upon close of Beta events. Participation in Beta requires acceptance of Beta Agreement. Must be 18+. Xbox GOLD membership required for Xbox users. Check this site for further details when available."

A previous pdf leak last year seemed to indicate the ability to create your own look for your soldier and possibly different types of ammo for your personal weapons IIRC.

Free Game From Valve : Alien Swarm

From Shacknews http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/64775

"Valve has announced a new, free game for PC gamers -- Alien Swarm -- which will be released on July 19 through Steam. Alien Swarm is described as a "game and Source SDK release from a group of talented designers at Valve who were hired from the Mod community."

Valve's new game: Alien Swarm

The original Alien Swarm was an Unreal Tournament 2004 modification made by Black Cat Games. The same team was working on a Source version of their game, planned as a full retail release.

"Two years ago Valve hired the talented team behind the popular top down co-op mod Alien Swarm. Since then they have been busy working on the Left 4 Dead Series, and now Portal 2. However, we never forgot about Alien Swarm and the team has spent a lot of time bringing the game to Source in between their contributions to the other Valve projects."

The game thrusts players into an epic bug hunt featuring a unique blend of co-op play and squad-level tactics. With your friends, form a squad of four distinct IAF Marine classes. Plan your attack using an unlockable arsenal of weapons with countless loadout configurations against a wide variety of aliens. Blaze your way through an overrun, off-world colony, eradicating the alien infestation in environments ranging from the icy planet's surface, to a subterranean lava-flooded mining facility."

As a true Valve game, Alien Swarm will support the full suite of features on Steam including achievements, Steam Cloud, matchmaking, stats tracking, and VAC for anti-cheat protection. It has not been announced for the Mac yet, however.

"Along with the game get the complete code base for Alien Swarm that features updates to the Source engine as well as the SDK. Alien Swarm adds 3rd person camera, depth of field, improved dynamic shadows and a wide variety of gameplay additions to the Source engine." "
